Life Edit: How to Bring Back Your Spark

Picture This...

You’re standing in the middle of your closet. Shelves are overflowing—some clothes you love, some you’ve outgrown, and others you forgot you even owned. Suddenly, everything starts tumbling off the shelves. You’re buried beneath a pile of good, bad, and “why did I ever buy this?” As you dig yourself out, something unexpected happens: You look around… and see beautiful, empty shelves. And you know: There’s no way all that clutter is going back in.

What If You “Marie Kondo’d” Your Life?

Just like the closet, your life can get crowded—with tasks, relationships, and responsibilities that once served you, but no longer do. When everything crashes down—metaphorically or literally—you’re faced with a choice: Shove it all back in and keep running on autopilot OR Get intentional. Clear space. And fill your life only with what sparks joy and meaning. Spoiler alert: The second choice leads to the sparkle.

That Aha Moment

One of my clients came to me post-divorce, post-empty-nest, ready to reclaim her time and energy. She wanted more joy, deeper connections, and meaningful work. We walked (literally—my favorite way to coach), talked, and dug deep.

Together we:

  • Assessed her strengths

  • Identified her core values

  • Took stock of all her commitments—the joyful, the draining, and everything in between

She realized she was ready to let go of obligations that didn’t align with who she is now. After a difficult but honest conversation to step away from one of those commitments, she texted me later to say: “My neighbor just asked why I had such a twinkle in my eye.” That’s it. That’s the feeling. Living in alignment doesn’t just feel good—it shows.

5 Steps to Start Living With More Intention (and That Twinkle)

  1. Take the VIA Strengths Assessment
Know your superpowers—and start using them daily.

  2. Choose 2 Core Values
Use Brené Brown’s list to name what really matters to you.

  3. Do a Brain Dump
Write down everything you “have” to do—tasks, responsibilities, obligations, and things you love.

  4. Let Go of One Thing
Pick one item on your list that doesn’t align with your values or strengths. Say goodbye. Delegate. Delete.

  5. Amplify What Brings You Joy
Choose one thing that lights you up—and invest more time and energy there. Watch what happens.

You’re One Closet Clean-Out Away From Clarity

These five steps may sound simple, but they create space—space to think, breathe, and begin again. They move you closer to the life that feels like you. Warning: You might radiate so much alignment that someone asks what’s behind your twinkle.
