Feeling Stuck? Ask Yourself These 5 Clarity-Boosting Questions
Ever feel out of sorts? Like you’re not quite yourself, and everything ahead feels… blurry? Exhale. You're in good company. Life tends to feel great when you’re in the driver’s seat—when your goals are clear, your path is mapped, and you feel in control. As a coach, that’s the space I love helping my clients return to. But what about those seasons when clarity disappears? When life feels like a foggy windshield, and the road ahead keeps shifting? In these moments of uncertainty, it’s easy to freeze or feel overwhelmed. Try these five grounding questions—to bring back calm, clarity, and forward motion.
1. What is Certain in my Life?
Make a list of the people, practices, and constants you can count on.
Keep it somewhere visible.
Revisit it when the chaos feels too loud.
Let it remind you: you have anchors.
2. How Much Uncertainty Can I Handle Right Now?
Rather than thinking endlessly into the future, define your own boundary:
Can you manage one day at a time? Start there.
A week? Plan only for that.
A few weeks? Great—build your mental frame around that window.
You get to set the boundaries around how much uncertainty you hold at once.
3. Where Can I Bring Clarity to What's Uncertain?
Look for specific areas where you can shift something from foggy to clear.
Can you make a decision you've been avoiding?
Gather more information?
Create a new routine?
Tiny steps toward certainty can calm your whole system.
4. What is This Season Teaching Me About Myself?
William Bridges describes the in-between season as “the neutral zone”—a space of waiting, reflecting, and preparing.
What’s surfacing for you?
What values feel especially important right now?
What are you learning about your resilience?
Don’t rush the neutral zone. There’s gold here.
5. What’s Uncertain and Out of My Control?
Make a list of these things—and then set it aside.
Redirect your energy to what is within your influence.
When in doubt, return to Questions 1–4.
Focusing where you can act brings peace and power.
In the Fog? You're Still Moving.
As you reflect on these questions, remember: even blurry seasons hold wisdom. Sometimes the fog is simply slowing you down long enough to recalibrate. Soon, you'll find yourself back behind the wheel—clear-eyed and ready for what’s next.
